Training workshop on application of information technology in foreign language teaching

On December, 3rd-4th, the Department of English and the Department of French together with English teaching assistants – Northern Hodge University Leeuwarden (Netherlands) organize a training workshop on the application of information technology in foreign language teaching for English and French lecturers at the Faculty.

At the training session for English teachers, Ms. Julia Visser, English teaching assistant introduces some useful online tools that are highly applicable, especially in the context of the classroom at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Along with MySchool Network (MySN), a social networking platform in education that is quite familiar with English lecturers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, in order to help students improve their English skills through online projects and events, Julia also introduces some online tools for the teaching process such as:  create resources, student profiles on Wikipaces, check online through Testmoz, interact online in class with students using Socrative, Blackboard or support the presentation process using Prezi instead of traditional Microsoft Powerpoint software.

Give speech at the training workshop, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Trang, Deputy Head of English Department expresses her hope that, along with knowing and proficiently using some of the introduced teaching tools, English lecturers of the Faculty can make lectures in the computer room really effective,  engages and inspires students to learn.

By knowing and proficiently using the tools introduced, teachers will make lessons more effective, inspiring students to learn. If most teachers of English are quite familiar with MySN, French teachers are quite surprised with this model. However, with the enthusiastic guidance of Mr. Ron Barendsen, Ms. Rolie Wierda, and French teaching assistant Danielle Vegt, the instructors are initially familiar with the usage and functions of this website.

With the popularization of online teaching support tools in general and MySN in particular, it is hoped that lecturers and students in the Faculty can approach foreign language teaching and learning methods in a new, quality and more effective angle; linking the goal of improving language capacity with the goal of improving information technology skills, one of the indispensable requirements for citizens in the new age, digital age and integration.
