A seminar introducing MySchools Network (MySN)

On the success of a series of seminars introducing the learning mentoring system and exploiting electronic teaching tools in foreign language teaching, on  March 21st 2013, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages Thai Nguyen University, a seminar introducing MySchools Network (MySN) in managing and supporting students to self-study English is organized.

At the seminar, Mr. Ron Barendsen and Ms. Roelien Wierda from Northern Hodge University Leewwarden (Netherlands) introduce an overview of MySN system and opene up lively discussions on how to effectively apply this system in high school and higher education environments in Vietnam. MA. Tran Thi Nhi – Vice Dean and MA. Nguyen Thi Minh Loan – Head of the English Department with teachers of English from high schools in the province and English lecturers of the faculty attend the seminar.

Founded by a group of educators in 2008, Myschool Network has created a new learning space where students can practice their language skills by communicating and sharing knowledge with students in English-speaking countries. Over the course of 5 years of development, MySN has gradually been perfected with verbal and visual communication functions (pictures, photos, and videos). Besides, events around interesting cultural topics held regularly every month have attracted a lot of students to visit. Through these events, students understand more about unique countries and cultures in the world, and have the opportunity to approach and use English in the most natural and accurate way. In addition, students majoring in pedagogy can practice pedagogical skills through correcting lessons or giving feedback on the work of other students.

For teachers, MySN is a place for passionate educators to experiment with new teaching methods as well as learn and share experiences from colleagues around the world. With just a simple registration process, teachers can create their own profile and start exchanging with students or teachers in their school in particular, and in all schools in the system in general. A unique feature of MySN is that teachers can create online projects to share knowledge or test large types of assignments (assignments/ projects) in virtual space for students. Immediately after the seminar, lecturers of the Department of Foreign Languages quickly create online topics on communication skills, language learning skills or cross-cultural communication and receive very positive responses from colleagues as well as students in the department.

With the ambition to create a virtual space but real knowledge, MySN has been perfected and widely introduced to foreign language lecturers and learners around the world. In the near future, MySN will build a large community of English learners with new methods of learning and cultural exploration along with the completion of research resources and foreign language teacher training projects in the future.

At the end of the seminar, the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages expresses thanks to Dutch experts who enthusiastically participate in the series of training seminars for teachers and students in Thai Nguyen. As a knowledge bridge, the Faculty of Foreign Languages expects MySN as well as other educational methods to bring a new vitality to the foreign language teaching and learning movement in the province.
