Graduates and the labor market Seminar
On the days from May, 18th – 20th 2022, the project “Monitoring employment trends of Vietnamese graduates after graduation” (MOTIVE) organize a seminar “Graduates and labor market”. The workshop is hosted by the Association of AlmaLaurea Universities in Bologna (Italy).
Participating in the workshop, from European partners, there are the attendances of the Association of AlmaLaurea Universities, FH Joaneum University of Applied Sciences (Republic of Austria); University of Barcelona (Spain); International Mobility and Consulting Agency INCOMA (Spain), National Accreditation and Auditing Agency ANECA (Spain). From Vietnamese partners, there are representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and educational institutions including: Hanoi University; Posts and Telecommunications Academy; Central University of Art Education; Vietnam National University of Agriculture; Thai Nguyen University; University of Internal Affairs; Hanoi Tourism College; Ha Long University. Representatives of the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda participate in the webinar from Hanoi, Vietnam.

From Thai Nguyen University (TNU), there are Dr. Nguyen Huu Tho – Deputy Chief of Office of TNU; Dr. Nguyen Dinh Yen – Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department; Dr. Pham Minh Hoang – Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department, University of Economics and Business Administration.
At the beginning of the workshop, Mr. Dorel Manitiu – MOTIVE Project Coordinator welcomes representatives of the project’s partners to present and attend the workshop in AlmaLaurea, Republic of Italia. This is an opportunity for units to thoroughly discuss the issue of graduates and enhance the opportunity to participate in the labor market of students, while discussing the next work packages of the project.

At the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training emphasizes the importance of the project “Monitoring employment trends of Vietnamese students after graduation“. In recent times, the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic has made it difficult for graduates to find suitable jobs. With the cooperation of partners from Europe and Vietnam, the project helps to build a network of stakeholders, create basis for universities to enhance students’ employability and support students in the process of starting a business.

Giving speech at the opening session of the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tho – Deputy Chief of Office of Thai Nguyen University affirmes that TNU’s commitment in implementing the project. This is an important project that helps students conduct a survey of the employment status of graduates at the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, thereby improving the quality of training and providing career guidance services for students. Ensuring graduates to have suitable jobs is one of the important criteria of training quality.

During the first working day, speakers reports topics related to students’ job search skills, experience in higher education cooperation in the world as well as experience in collecting and analyzing information about graduates through assessment surveys. Project members also discuss the topic of graduates in order to make suggestions to strengthen the capacity and employability of Vietnamese students.
In the framework of the MOTIVE project, the project management organizes a writing contest “Graduates and the labor market” on topics related to students and job opportunities. At the workshop, Mr. Dorel Manitiu – Project Coordinator awardes the best scientific article with the title “Career orientation of final-year students in Vietnam in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic” by a group of students from Hanoi University. The authors and student Nguyen Kim Ngan’s representatives present their ideas and suggestions in career orientation and job search opportunities of graduates.

At the workshop, the project’s professional teams also holds in-depth meetings, focusing on proposing solutions to some outstanding issues and orienting the upcoming operation plan, and raises recommendations and proposals on the establishment of a National Center for Graduate Monitoring.
In addition, the project team also discusses and plans the communication activities of the project in the near future. This is one of the important job packages, helping to expand the network of higher education institutions, students and employers to further strengthen the connection and create a foundation, creating job search opportunities for Vietnamese students. The next workshop is scheduled to be held from July 14th to 16th, 2022 in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province hosted by Ha Long University.
The MOTIVE project aims to study the employment situation of graduates in Vietnam and promote cooperation between universities and businesses. The project also aims to strengthen the connection between students and businesses to improve employment opportunities for graduates. The project is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme.
